"Washed by the Blood" is a conceptual self-portraiture series that tackles feelings of religious trauma and grappling with a system of organized religion that often directly contradicts text and wants to hate you for being who you are. Through these fifteen sequential images, I am expressing my pain, my confusion, and my reaching out for help towards a God that I still believe exists. I reference religious imagery, art, and symbolism. The installation of the work includes the bloodied bible and a written piece that serves as an artist statement and prints of the series for sale are optionally distressed with blood and scratches.
